Short Term Accommodation

A Break for Everyone

Short Term Accommodation

Short Term Accommodation (STA), also known as respite, offers NDIS participants a valuable opportunity to take a break from their usual home and support network. It also provides a much-needed chance for families and carers to recharge.

It’s important to understand that STA isn’t a paid holiday. The NDIS funds STA to provide necessary support and allow participants to pursue their goals in a different environment. While participants can certainly enjoy their time away from home, the primary purpose of STA is to offer a break that focuses on their disability support needs.

What does STA include?

STA can cover a range of supports, including:

      • Accommodation in a safe and comfortable environment
      • Personal care, such as assistance with showering and dressing
      • Meals and snacks
      • Activities and outings that align with your NDIS plan goals
What does the NDIS cover?

The NDIS will fund STA for up to 14 days at a time, with a maximum of 28 days per year. The amount of funding available will depend on your individual NDIS plan and goals.

What kind of activities can I do during respite?

The activities you can do during respite should relate to your NDIS plan and goals. Generally, activities should be linked to your disability and help you build capacity and independence. Some examples of activities include:

      • Attending social events and outings
      • Participating in recreational activities
      • Learning new skills
      • Receiving therapy or support
